The Taj Mahal, built in the 16th century really is all it is cracked up to be, and more. I have no doubt that it is number one of the Seven New Wonders of the World.
Allen started as a novelty prize in a piñata in a week-late Cinqo de Mayo party in Calgary, Canada, in mid-May, 2007. Not an auspicious beginning for an alien of such an adventurous nature.
Travelling with his much more cautious partner, Hume, he set off to see the world - well at least some of it - on the way from Calgary to Brisbane. He's been waylaid a few times.
This is his story.

Today marks exactly 12 months since Hume's arrival in Calgary, and exactly seven months since his departure from Calgary accompanied by Allen on his Awesome Adventure. The plucky little pinata toy has a done a lot of travelling, met a lot of interesting people and had a lot of fun. Today would have marked a rightful end to it all. But, you know, with the strong wind, overcast weather, Lauren not being there, some uncertainty about the poll currently online, and this and that and all the other dithering around, it never quite happened.
Allen the Alien did not parachute from the JD Story Bridge 80 metres into the Brisbane River to mark the end of his Awesome Adventure.
Instead, Grace and Hume climbed to the top of the bridge, a tourist trip, without Allen and had lot of fun. A reconnaissance exercise if you like.

Allen did make a new friend: A souvenir is a plastic zip-pull in the protective overalls as part of the bridge climb. We've call him Zip, the Story Bridge Adventure Climb Guy. He won't replace Allen - he couldn't - but he may just come with us from time to time.
In the mean time, how about you visit the Blog, Allen the Alien's Awesome Adventure, and cast your vote for what we should really do with Allen. Should he jump or not?
Allen enjoys dining out with friends. These taken at various cafes and bars around stunning Lake Wakitipu, Queenstown, NZ.

Allen visited New Zealand December 6 to 16, 2007, with his idle hanger-on Hume, who was attending a conference. Allen had other ideas.
This pic was taken by famous author and cynic, Dr Stephen Dann, now at the Australian National University. We are on the Tourist Train running from the beautiful historic Dunedin railway station through the spectacular Taieri Gorge. The strange overweight, middle-aged, hungover and fatigued guy with Allen is unknown.
